Joseph P. McCaffery – Principal Attorney/Founder
With dozens of jury and bench trials, including capital cases, Illinois lawyer Joseph P. McCaffery is courtroom savvy and an aggressive negotiator who represents clients throughout Illinois, including extensive representation of clients locally and internationally in Federal Court, Cook County and its Collar Counties.  Joe has nearly 20 years of courtroom experience and a vast background that lends him to be successful in representing clients based throughout Chicago, the State of Illinois, nationwide and globally.  His Illinois law firm assists clients in a variety of legal issues including divorce and other family law, criminal defense, business litigation, and other crises in Illinois and other states.

As an experienced and involved lawyer, Joe has been a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois Bar Association, and is a current member of the American Bar and Will County Bar Associations. He also has been an Arbitrator for Cook County and is involved in the community. He serves as pro-bono General Counsel for Special Music by Special People, a charitable organization serving developmentally disabled children and young adults, and for the USS McCaffery Association, a non-profit veterans’ organization composed of personnel who served on the Navy destroyer named for Joe’s great uncle, a Marine Raider battalion leader in WWII.  Joe also was named for this war hero and is said to have inherited his, leadership, compassion, wit and fight.  

In addition, Joe is an active, IHSA-certified youth sports coach. He is family oriented with a goal to guide families through the unsteady times they face, and a seasoned entrepreneur who understands the complexities business owners face.  Joe speaks conversational Russian, German and Greek.

Daniel O. Stamm– Senior Associate Attorney
Daniel Stamm has been involved in all areas of litigation, including mortgage foreclosure, family law and other civil matters, as well as criminal defense since joining Joseph P. McCaffery & Associates.  Dan is a licensed attorney in Illinois and the U.S. District Court. 

Prior to receiving his law degree at Loyola University Chicago School of Law where he received a Law Honors-at-Entrance Scholarship, Dan was a merit scholar, earning a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Berkeley, in his native state.  He also was employed with the Ohio Children’s Foundation in Columbus, serving as a liaison between non-profit, veterans’ and fraternal organizations and the state to assist non-profits in compliance with Ohio’s fund raising laws.

In addition to his client service duties, Dan manages the firm's Chicago office.  He speaks conversational Spanish.

Colin F. Carr – Associate Attorney
Colin Carr specializes in commercial and business law and litigation; real estate law, both transactional and litigation; and financial and estate planning.

Prior to joining the Joseph P. McCaffery & Associates, Colin served as an associate attorney with other Chicago law firms where he focused on business, financial planning, IRS and collection matters.  He also has worked with the City of Chicago's Department of Law, Buildings and Land Use Litigation Division, and has experience counseling commercial enterprises on employee and operational policies.

Colin is a Chicago native and graduate of Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

Lee A. Hauserman - Associate Attorney
While involved in all aspects of litigation, Lee Hauserman is the lead attorney on the firm's mortgage foreclosure matters.  He began working in the foreclosure practice early prior to the housing crisis, and has managed cases involving mortgage fraud, as well as those involving financial hardship and under-water walk-aways.

Lee completed his legal studies at Loyola Chicago School of Law and holds an undergraduate degree in economics from Oklahoma State University.  He served the firm and its clients as a law clerk for nearly two years prior to being licensed as an attorney.

He also earned a diploma in Spanish from the Defense Language Institute, and served in the US Army from 1999 to 2007 earning a rank of Sergeant.  His experience in the Armed Forces provides special insight in serving our clients in the military, many of whom have turned to the firm to handle U.S. legal matters while stationed overseas.  During his service Lee spent a year in Iraq.

Alexandra Kotelon - Associate Attorney
Alexandra Kotelon focuses on civil and criminal litigation.  She joined JPMA as a law clerk 20 months prior to being licensed as an attorney. 

A graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law, Alexandra holds an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She also served as a clerk for another Chicagoland law firm while earning her law degree.

Alexandra is bilingual (English/Polish) and provides translation for our Polish-speaking clients across all practice areas, including litigation and immigration.

Meghen K. Pitts - Associate Attorney
Meghen Pitts focuses on conflict resolution and family law.  Prior to joining Joseph P. McCaffery & Associates, she served as a mediator with New Justice Conflict Resolution Services, Inc., in Syracuse, N.Y.

A graduate of Syracuse University College of Law, Meghen was certified in the New York State Mediator Training Program.  Her experience with The Family Law Project in Ann Arbor, Mich., provided opportunities for Meghen to work with survivors of domestic violence and solidified her commitment to working in family law.

As an undergraduate at North Central College in Naperville, Ill., Meghen was awarded the Presidential Scholarship as she completed her bachelor's degree in political science with minors in Spanish and history of ideas and conflict resolution.  She also earned two Richter Fellowships, giving her the opportunity to observe the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.

Laura J. Smith - Associate Attorney
Laura Smith serves many of the firm’s clients in the areas of family law and other civil litigation. Prior to joining JPMA Laura practiced law at legal aid in Michigan where she handled criminal appeals before the Michigan State Appellate Defender’s Office. 

Among her accomplishments is authoring a brief that caused the State of Michigan to retest its evidence in a criminal matter, placing the case on abeyance subject to retesting.  The matter currently remains pending completion of a new series of evidence testing.  Laura also worked on appeals in Michigan Family Court. 

Laura joined JPMA as a law clerk and has remained with the firm as a licensed attorney.  She is a graduate of Wayne State University School of Law in Michigan, and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy where she earned an undergraduate degree in political science and psychology.
